Children Can Learn About the Holocaust in a Book.

The unique publication is being presented to schools and students in our region. Members of the foundation Respect and Tolerance acquired about twenty books about Holocaust and now they are distributing them to schools free of charge. “The book contains very comprehensible texts and many photographs. Most important chapters are enriched by over two dozens exact copies (facsimiles) of period documents,” said Ludek Stipl from the foundation. Throughout the book students will discover for instance a copy of the decree ordering Jews to surrender their driving licenses, written orders to join the transport to the East, or Daily notices from the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Publication was edited by the newspaper reporter and historian Frantisek Emmert and published by Computer Press in Brno.

Book about the HOLOCAUST

Members of the Foundation for the Respect and Tolerance believe that this recently released publication is the first-rate teaching aid. With the financial assistance of Dr. Canter (see Dr. Stanton Canter Library) over 50 books were purchased and distributed to high schools, colleges and University in the region free of charge.

The book in simple terms explains the important tragic events and uncovers its causes. It contains 28 chapters with easy to read texts and many photographs and maps. There are also pockets with about thirty facsimiles of period documents and its translations – eg. the decree dated 1941 ordering Jews to surrender their radio sets, orders to attend the transport to the East, Theresienstadt bank notes and stamps etc. It is a kind of an exhibition presented in a book.

The comments from teachers and students are very positive:

“Today I looked through the book Holocaust by Frantisek Emmert and I am excited – I believe that in a given number of pages it presents considerable amount of information. Placement of period documents (facsimiles) is excellent especially for teachers work in schools.“

Tana Cihlarova, Educational and Cultur. Center of J. Museum in Prague (Brno Branch)

“The publication Holocaust is an outstanding teaching aid, which will be very useful for the history classes and for our educational – art programs. “

Blanka Hybaskova, Demlova High School, Olomouc

“This publication is excellent. Texts are very clear and we appreciate especially chronological arrangement of chapters…. It contains everything we discuss with students during history classes, including Anne Frank’s Diary, story of Nicolas Winton or Oscar Schindler. It will be nice to use this book during history classes…”

Irena Kotkova, head of history teachers, Gymnasium in Sternberk

“The publication is very useful also for university students. Our students are really interested in the publication and we had to create a waiting list for it.”

Ivana Bednarikova, Cabinet of Judaic Studies, Palacky University in Olomouc.

Books about the Holocaust were already given to several high schools, colleges and academies in the Mohelnice and Olomouc region, gymnasiums in Unicov, Zabreh, Litovel and Sternberk and Palacky University in Olomouc.
